Thor is associated with battles, thunder, storms, lightning, strength, and the tragic tale of his ultimate downfall due to betrayal. His history as a legend extends at least as far back as Roman times and likely a good deal further, though there are no records of how or when he originated.
Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, is an Australian actor.
Hemsworth first played Thor in "Thor" (2011).
Other films featuring Hemsworth as Thor include "Thor: The Dark World" (2013), "Avengers: Age of Ultron" (2015), and "Thor: Ragnarok" (2017). Hemsworth as Thor pops up in the various Avengers films, most recently in "Avengers: Endgame" (2019).
Thor is presented in the Marvel films as the crown prince of Asgard who has embarked on a quest. He hopes to find the "Infinity Stones." He carries his hammer, Mjolnir, to smite his enemies.
While a mighty warrior, Thor often gets into trouble. He suffers lasting injuries from his battles, such as losing an eye. He winds up in prison in "Thor: Ragnarok."
However, never fear, Thor always triumphs in the end.
Odin, Thor's father, is sometimes in trouble. Thor then has to save him. In "Thor: Ragnarok," Thor forces his half-brother to help him save their father.
While Thor is successful in freeing Odin, it is a bittersweet victory because Odin dies. His death unleashes Hela, Odin's firstborn child, who causes a lot of problems.
Valkyrie is a slave trader. She is based on Brynhildr, an original character from mythology.
In the Marvel films, Valkyrie has been played by Tessa Thompson.

"Thor: Ragnarok" was the ninth-highest film of 2017.
The projected follow-up is "Thor: Love and Thunder." It is set for release on 5 November 2021, but that may change.
"Thor: Love and Thunder" will feature Valkyrie looking for a queen.
Loki is the villain or antihero of the Thor legend. He is Thor's adopted brother and enemy. In the myths, Loki is something of a shapeshifter, being able to change into a woman as events require.
In the Marvel films, Loki is played by Tom Hiddleston.
The Thor series remains very popular and is sure to be around for many years to come!
Long live Thor!
