Here we have coloring pages of all U.S. Presidents to date.



As of this writing, there have been 45 United States Presidents. To arrive at that number, you must count one man twice - Grover Cleveland, who served two non-consecutive terms in the late 19th Century. As much as anything else, this collection is a reflection of the development of photography.

John Quincy Adams in March 1843.

John Quincy Adams is believed to be the 'earliest' US President to have been photographed and have the photo survive. This was done by an early film process known as daguerreotype. Adams went down to a Washington studio and had it done. However, Adams was not photographed while in office, but only14 years later in 1843. The photo was unknown until it was spotted in a shop in 1970 selling for fifty cents (it is now in the National Archive). William Henry Harrison had a daguerreotype taken in 1841 around the time of his inauguration, but that photo is lost, and Adams had a different photo taken in 1842 which also is lost. So, if either of those is found, it would be the first existing photograph of a President. But, for now, the 1843 photo of Adams is the earliest one in existence.

James Polk, the 11th President was photographed in 1849 while he was still in office. He thus became the first sitting President to be captured like that for posterity.
