Starfish
Everybody calls them starfish, but it is considered more accurate to call them sea stars, so, here are coloring pages of starfish and sea stars. In any event, starfish (no need to be accurate if you don't want to be and everyone knows what you're talking about) are believed to be some of the oldest creatures on earth. They don't individually live that long - only about a decade, though some can live several times that long - but, according to the fossil record, their lineage stretches back hundreds of millions of years.
Starfish are echinoderms and invertebrates. That is a fancy way of saying that they don't have backbones, in fact, they don't have bones at all. Never remove starfish from the water, because as they dehydrate (dry out), they will shrink until they are barely the size of your pinkie. Scientists are worried about starfish, because there have been episodes when their population shrinks in size for unknown reasons in various places. However, there is little likelihood of starish disappearing, as they inhabit all of the world's oceans and outnumber people by a wide margin - though it is impossible to know exactly how many there are. In fact, there are 1500 known kinds (species) of starfish, and probably some we don't know about, too.
Anyway, we hope you enjoy our coloring pages of starfish. Just right-click on the picture you like and choose "save." Then, find it on your computer and send it to your printer. That's it! Enjoy your experience with the starfish!
